Diet of a Minimalist

I am no expert at food and nutrition, but I have been able to control my weight, health, and fitness through a minimalist diet. I preach it’s usefulness because it works.

Currently, I am not loyally following this typeof diet. I should be, but I am just being hypocritical instead (Maybe, this will kick me back into it).

I love the minimalist diet for multiple reasons, but mainly the following…

  • It’s cheap
  • It’s healthy
  • It’s reasonable

My minimalist diet may not follow the strict outline of those like Karol Gajda and Leo Babauta, but it does the trick. By now, you are probably wondering what types of meals and foods are involved in such a diet. Well, it can vary greatly, but I can share with you some of what my minimalist diet entails…

  • Lot’s of fruits and veggies
  • Black Beans
  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Brown Rice
  • Usually limited to 3-5 items

Through a minimalist diet, I was able to go from a fit but bulky 205 lbs. to 182 lbs. of lean muscle. I was able to get down to under 5% body fat just by eliminating most refined sugars, fast food, and working out a lot. This is obviously just my case, but I know this works because I have been on and off it multiple times with the same results.

Keys to a Minimalist Diet:

  • Limit items of meal to 5
  • Use only items which has ingredients you know
  • Use items that are all natural
  • Drinks lots of water and tea
  • Eat 5 small meals a day

My advice to those of you looking for a new fad diet, STOP! You should think about a minimalist diet that focuses on healthy foods that are often not processed and implement fitness. This isn’t some brand spanking new diet. It’s just how most humans have been living for centuries. I consider it a minimalist diet because it uses the principles of minimalism. You can call it whatever you want. With any name, it all boils down to being a simple, easy and practical diet that all of us should follow more often.

7 Reasons Being a Minimalist Makes You Happier

Becoming a minimalist was one of the best decisions I have ever made for the sole reason that I am happier. I wake up every morning knowing my few possessions are not holding me back from living the life I want. In other words, I am happy and content living the minimalist life. If for no other reason, this is why you should start living more of a minimalist life.

Being happy is often our usual fall back for any and all actions. However, many times, claiming that this and that will make us happier actually is not true. Many of the things we buy and/or accumulate our time with end up being major regrets. I would much rather be exploring Nicaragua for two weeks on an excursion than having the Discovery Channel show me the things I am missing out on around the world. Taking action to be happy is important. Understanding what makes you happy is even more important. If clutter makes you happy than a clutter filled life you should live. But, I have this strong feeling that a minimalist life would open the doors to a much happier life than first imagined.Plus it can be done in just a month.

The following are 7 Way Being a Minimalist Makes You Happier…

  1. Debt Reduction – Let’s be honest. Most people would be happier if they didn’t have debt. The fewer things you own and owe on, the likelier you are to have the burden of debt weighing you down.
  2. Travel Opportunities – Using your hard earned money to plan and enjoy vacations can become a reality when you don’t owe for useless stuff.
  3. RelaxYou can relax and breathe knowing you do not have a cluttered life.
  4. Family Time - being a minimalist allows you to focus on that which important.
  5. Goals – Goals change when you have the freedom to do and be what you choose.
  6. Healthier – Many of those that have turned to minimalism as a lifestyle have become healthy along the way. Leo is just one example.
  7. Brighter Outlook – I have become a more positive person by focusing on what is important. Living a life of No Worries leads to happiness.
