From 2007 until recently, the US economy has faltered and many of our fates were placed in the hands of others.  Now, I don’t know about you, but this uneasiness of the US workplaces made me realize something important: I need to establish multiple streams of income that will allow for diversification if something horrible happens to my primary stream of income.

My Drawn Out Failure to Success

About a year ago, I was sitting in a hostel in Sydney, Australia aimlessly trying to generate a small business online. I was lost and had no direction as to where to go. It took another 6 months of long nights and a pick-myself-up attitude before I had my first significant payday online.  Yes, 6 months. Until then I was just a soldier with a shotgun instead of a sniper rifle. My attempts were like buckshot, hitting everything but not necessarily getting much done. Whereas, if my attempts were more like a sniper rifle, I could have focused on one attempt properly and accomplished a lot more at a higher efficiency.

Thankfully, I finally found my way in February with the launch of PROJECT M-31. Today, I generally pull in about $750-$1,000/month off of online ventures. I know, that isn’t a lot, but let’s change the scenario a bit. Let’s say you have a normal 9-5 type of job. You love your job, but want a bit more security. So, you decide you need to be bringing home an extra $1,000 just for personal security satisfaction. It doesn’t appear that you are getting a raise anytime soon so you decide to get a side job. However, you have no idea where to start and you don’t want to physically burn yourself out working two jobs. This is where Minimalist Business becomes your savior.

The Perfect Tool

Do you remember those sporks in the cafeteria from elementary school? All you ever need was a knife, but they only gave you a spoon/fork. Only if you had the right tool would your life have been that much easier. Enter Minimalist Business.

Minimalist Business is brought to us by the wonderful work of Everett Bogue, author of Art of Becoming Minimalist.

I look back to my time in Sydney of wandering aimlessly and wish I would have met Everett then. Today, Bogue and I are blogging buddies and I have seen him go from $0 to thousands of dollars per month strictly from running a minimalist business. Today, Everett Bogue re-launches Minimalist Business and I cannot stress enough how incredibly life changing this eBook can be for you. Last week, I reviewed How to Live Anywhere by Karol Gajda which opens your eyes to the possibilities in online ventures and making a lifestyle abroad  or where you sit right now possible.  Minimalist Business is different because is focus’ on the act of simplifying the process and expectations that come with starting your own business. In all actuality, I hope that Gajda and Bogue will one day offer these two incredible projects as a combo pack, but until then, you need to get them individually.

“But I have No Idea What to Get Into”

When I started blogging, I had no idea what my niche was. I just kind of started writing about this and that in my life. Eventually, I found my niche of simplifying life here at The Minimalist Path. All it took to find that niche was starting. Just like I say at Running Somewhere, all it takes is getting started and everything will figure itself out. Minimalist Business will guide you through each and every step that will lead to your success depending on the effort you put into it.

With Minimalist Business, I truly believe that anyone can start a small business on the side to generate a bit of passive income or, possibly, a career from their minimalist business approach.

I hope you take this opportunity to accomplish that which will bring about security and happiness in a simplified approach.

  • I can relate to the path you have experienced in your blogging journey. When I first started it took me a similar amount of time to figure out my voice and my niche. I knew I was writing to inspire people to lead better lives, but I wasn't sure exactly how to translate what I had to say into useful and practical advice to get readers going.

My initial approach was more abstract and philosophical, which received a good response but didn't translate easily into subscribers. It was through people like Leo, Everett, Darren Rowse, Brian Clark, and others that I really learned the practical side of blogwriting and of providing tangible value with you r posts.

These guys speak with a simplicity and clarity that makes the process of designing your life on your own terms seem within reach. They are a great source of inspiration, and have helped me find my voice, but more importantly, to put it into practical use.
