“Mental toughness is many things. It is humility because it behooves all of us to remember that simplicity is the sign of greatness and meekness is the sign of true strength. Mental toughness is spartanism with qualities of sacrifice, self-denial, dedication. It is fearlessness, and it is love.” – Vince Lombardi
Living a simple life sounds intriguing to many, but people usually bypass this lifestyle for one reason or another. I would like to think it was because people are focused on what they love, but highly doubt that is the case in most instances. Too often, we choose a lifestyle destination, but do not focus on the path to that end goal. One way to find the path is to follow others that have done what you dream of doing.
With the development of The Minimalist Path, I have come across other great sites contributing to the simplicity mindset. I like to think that I am slowly becoming a part of their world, but know I have a long way to go to have their amount of positive impact on others.
I compiled a list of 10 blogs that focus on simplicity and minimalism that may help you narrow down your actions, avoid the distractions of society and succeed at that which you have not yet been able to accomplish.
7 Amazing Blogs About Simplicity:
- Ridiculously Extraordinary – Karol Gajda is a world traveler living his dreams now. But he used to be the Average Joe striving for a big house and a flashy ride. Today, Gajda is somewhere in the world making passive income while he is doing whatever the hell he damn pleases. While Karol is doing such, he is living a life of few possessions. He strives to limit the clutter in his life to be able to do what he wants, when he wants. If you are looking for the opportunity to travel the world, do what you love, and succeed, follow Karol Gajda and his simplistic lifestyle mode. eBook: How to Live Anywhere Article I suggest: Choose Your Path and Follow It…or Else!
- the middle finger project – With the tag line Rejecting the Status Quo & Rebelling Against Mediocrity, no reason I picked this as a perfect simplistic site to follow. Ashley Ambirge runs TMFP and doesn’t directly discuss simplicity or minimalism, but brings about the notion that you can do what you want and it doesn’t have to involve a house full of stuff. Through Ashley’s site, you can start taking actions towards your dreams and stop focusing on the least important aspects of life. - Becoming Minimalist – Joshua Becker and family are trying to simplify their life so they can focus on time rather than possessions with one another. Becker blogs about improving one’s own outlook while reducing the consumerist idea that has been ingrained by society. The major reason why I like BM is because it is a family simplifying. How often do we hear the excuses of an individual or couple in regards to not simplifying? This family is doing it, so I know you can too. eBook: Simplify Article I suggest: benefit #25 – less time shopping (more productive life)
- Zen Habits – Leo Babauta was the reason I became a minimalist. Babauta shares his ideas and lifestyle over at Zen Habits through articles that help you act. Leo has made some drastic lifestyle changes since starting ZH in February of 2007. If you need life guidance, check out his archives as he touches on all of his own struggles and his attempt to become a better human being. I strive to be like Leo and in doing so have accomplished many things I once thought were impossible. eBook: The Simple Guide to a Minimalist Life Article I suggest: The Art of Artlessness: On Living Simply and Naturally
- Far Beyond the Stars – Everett Bogue, writer of FBTS, has come into the minimalist world and dominated in just about 7 months. He sold everything, quit his job and moved to Portland (now back in New York) to change his life forever. He has succeeded by leaps and bounds. Today, FBTS has been mentioned or linked to by, what seems like, everyone in the productivity world. He has great, in-depth articles that take you down a path to success without even knowing it. eBook: The Art of Being Minimalist Article I suggest: The Minimalist Guide to Leaving Your Soul-Crushing Job
- Rowdy Kittens – Tammy Strobel writes at RK to help create social change through simple living. I wish I would have come up with such a simplistic and meaningful tag-line, but I didn’t. Tammy has developed a lifestyle that has few things and a lot of adventure on two wheels. eBook: Simply Car-Free Article I suggest: How to Change the World by Rethinking Your Perspective
- Exile Lifestyle – I love following Colin Wright because he is living the life I want. I strive to have his travel lifestyle. He blogs about some of the most random things that end up being the best life changes you can make. He is traveling the world with just 51 items to his name. He may not blog about simplicity that often, but he does live that life. eBook: How to Be Remarkable Article I suggest: You’ll Never Be Philosophically Fulfilled (And That’s Okay)
