Meeting Your Minimalist Goals

Determination will help you build your wall of BabylonRecently, I finished reading George S. Clason’s The Richest Man in Babylon. Now, I am not going to try and convince you to become the perfect financial citizen of your own Babylon (I will do that over at LifeExcursion, probably). What I want to do is share a quote from the book that I think can and should be implemented to many more parts of our lives than just finances.

Where the Determination is, the Way Can Be Found

I think this is a powerful quote for a few reasons:

  1. We all have the ability to be whoever we want.
  2. We all define our own levels of success and we know whether or not we are meeting those expectations.
  3. We all can accomplish any task if we are willing to sacrifice in areas of insignificance to said goal.

This is true for minimalism as well. Just like many of you, I have had difficulties in accomplishing some of my minimalist tasks/goals at times. However, I have been bound and determined to succeed and accomplishing that which seems unachievable. That determination I have built in myself makes any challenge a little less difficult to dive in to.

Whether you are trying to minimalize your financial liabilities, reduce the personal possessions and commitments consuming your life, or just simply clean and organize that floor-to-ceiling cluttered garage, if you maintain a determined mentality of accomplishing your minimalist goal, you will discover the way to achieve it.

—I suggest checking out Everett Bogue’s article What is Your Minimalist Destination? for some great insight into what you life could become by being a minimalist.

  • I have been living a minimalistic lifestyle for a few years now.I love it! Paid down a lot of debt by just selling the things I used to own. Now I'm free to travel and leave when I want. It rocks!
  • I happen to have set a big and difficult goal for myself in an area that I knew close to nothing about. I've been struggling toward reaching my goal for months and the only thing that let me persevere was the mindset that: 1) It is possible to reach the goal as others did it before 2) There is no other way for me, I can't go back anymore once I started upon this path.

I may lack motivation sometimes when things go bad, but determination is what keeps me going.

And I really like the quote, I am currently working on a project closely related to quotes and inspiration and I'm definitely going to remember this one :)

    Thanks for commenting!

I agree that focusing on the goal is key. It is a tough balance of effort towards determination and realizing what the effort is for.

  • It definitely makes everything easier thinking we can do anything if we stick to it. It is a good idea to think about where we end up though. If we work like crazy toward something we don't want, what's the point?
